Getting started

After my first practical workshop in Photography, as instructed i searched through my own archive of photos and looked through other peoples work in their Flickr accounts, to find some images that i felt had an impact upon me. Below are a few images that i came across in my search; The first four images are all photos taken myself on a digital camera with no post enhancements, whilst the remaining our images by others taken on SLR cameras.

All be it that this may be an extremly randomly taken photo, taken whilst i was experimenting with my camera, the movement, energy and warnness within this photo appeals to me. I enjoy the close range of the depth of field, the foreground of the picture captures every crease and detail within the material, whilst the background is out of depth but the warness and blur of the lights creates a sense of movement that i feel contrast well with the foreground.
This holiday snap fills me with joy every time i look at it. The angle at which the photo is taken creates a sense of a journey leading the viewer up the stalk to the tip of tree, capturing the expansive leaves mingling within the sky. I feel the emotive resonse to this image is captured due to the warm and welcoming natural imagery.

At first i felt the lack of exposure would ruin this image, however, once i sat and looked at it, i feel the lower exposure suits the mood of the image. Taken just after dusk, i like how the contrast of colour between the people and the sea creates a warming tone. The purple, slighlty sepia tint created to the sun adds to this warmth and suggests an initmate connection between the two people.

My views on this image are completely torn. I really enjoy and am pleased with the powerful contrast of the light that  i captured in the sky. I feel the power of the bright light emerging through the deep dark clouds creates a pleasant image, however, i am frustrated that the foreground is too dark.  This is a learning curve for me to ensure i take more than one attempt of the same setting in the future to ensure i capture the correct balance within the whole image.
